Take a look at a couple of significant projects in our neighborhood completed during the spring of 2007.
The 2007 Family Ice Cream Social
Thanks to everyone who attended the family event at Lattawood Park in September. Major "Kudos" to Linda O'Byrne for organizing the event!
Island Redevelopment
In spring, 2006 the SECOND PHASE of the Neighborhood's Island Redevelopment Project took place. Neighbors Jolene White and Mette Andersen coordinated their island projects on 152nd Pl. S.E. (Division 3) and S.E. 48th Dr. (Division 2) respectively.
As in the first phase, neighbors submitted $-contributions and labor hours, resident Kevin Fletcher and his Zone 8 Landscaping company contributed materials, labor & equipment at their cost, and in the course of one weekend, several years of neglect dissolved into brand new neighborhood showpieces.

In September 2005, H.C.C.A. held its first Bellevue Information Night. The event was held at the Eastgate Elementary school, and gav residents a chance to learn more about what the city has in store for our South-of-I90 communities.
Some topics addressed that evening included:
- New South Bellevue Community Center
- Plans for expansion of the Newport Way King County Library
- Construction of the 150th Ave. S.E. Corridor
- Possible safety enhancements on 150th Ave. S.E. (closer to our neighborhood).
Photos and Information from that evening can be found here.

Island Enhancement PHASE ONE was completed
H.C.C.A. began an ambitious program to redevelop common areas which have not had much rework since the neighborhood was first developed in the 1970's. With $-contributions and volunteer labor from residents, a donation from the HCCA treasury, and some matching funds from the City of Bellevue, the project began with a complete overhaul of the WEST ENTRANCE to the neighborhood.
In July 2005, trees were removed from the island. In October, old plantings were removed, the island resculpted, the old sign was moved up the road (facing SOUTH on 151st Ave. S.E.), and new plantings, lighting, and an irrigation system were installed.
In November, the most visible change was the installation of a new neighborhood sign, with the "Horizon Crest" etched into a large stone. The sign was purchased from THE STONE YARD, and installed with crews from that company, volunteer help from neighbors. H.C. resident Kevin Fletcher's ZONE 8 LANSCAPING company was instrumental in acquiring materials, donating extra plants, landscaping labor and equipment, and offering substantial savings so the proceeds we raised could be stretched even further.
Photos from the various work parties can be found ON THIS PAGE.
HOME TEAM visits H.C.
A television program focusing on giving first-time homeowners a chance visited our neighborhood to shoot one of their first episodes. The Home Team not only reworked a Division 4 home on S.E. 49th Street and welcomed two new people to our neighborhood; but they gave neighbors a chance to experience "Craft Services" (production catering) and celebrate the efforts.
