Horizon Crest NEIGHBORHOOD REFERENCE >> Horizon Crest New Resident Primer Horizon Crest New Resident Primer Garbage/Recycling/Yard Waste
Pickup is on Tuesdays. Put cans next to curb (hinges on curb side of can so trucks can pick the cans up automatically) by 7am as sometimes pickup happens early. Separate trucks will pick up your garbage (grey can), recycling (blue can), and yard waste (green can).
Vehicle & Licensing Issues
Car Inspections (for out of state vehicles) can be done at the STATE PATROL, which is on the other side of I-90, on 156th Ave. S.E., just a couple blocks north of McDonalds.
Emission Inspections can be done at the TESTING STATION, which is on OUR side of I-90, just a little further down the road from Albertsons.
Vehicle Licensing can be done at the Factoria mall.
Driver's Licenses are available at S.E. 8th & 156th Ave. S.E. (Lake Hills Shopping Center).
Post Offices
Our area is served by the DOWNTOWN BELLEVUE post office (N.E. 12th & Bellevue Way N.E.); although outbound and other services can be done:
- At a private post office inside Factoria Square Mall
- At a closer post office facility at on N.E. 8th at 158th Ave. S.E. (near Crossroads mall)
- or at the MIDLAKES postoffice at N.E. 2nd & 116th Ave. N.E.
Wild Animals
Wild animal sightings are fairly common given the green belts that wind through our community. Raccoons, deer, rabbits, coyotes are not that unusual. We also have regular seasonal sightings of Black Bears, Cougars, and Bobcats. We will usually send email alerts to the neighborhood when sightings of the more dangerous animals are reported.
Recommendations:
- Keep small pets indoors
- Don't leave pet food (or other food) outside
- Supervise children and make sure they are indoors by dusk (cougars are most active in the evening)
- Store garbage in cans with secure lids (so odors don't attract the animals)
- Avoid walking in the steeper greenbelt areas as these often have active coyote dens
If you encounter a cougar or bear:
- DON'T RUN! (Animals will instinctively chase you)
- Stop ... stand tall (try to appear larger than the animal)
- Do NOT take your eyes off the animal or turn your back
- Do NOT crouch down or try to hide
- Shout ONLY if the animal shows aggressive behavior. Throw rocks. Convince the animal you are a threat and not potential prey.
NON-EMERGENCY King County number to report animals: 425.775-1311
(8a-5p Monday-Friday)
State Database of Cougar Sightings is here.
